The American family has come a long way and has changed a lot overtime. Liberals and conservatives have their own views on the American family today. It is very tough to raise a family nowadays. However, there are some easier ways to raise a family today as well. Some of the things that I will talk about are divorce and its effects, welfare, abusiveness on children and wives, and a couple of articles in the book, Families in the U.S. One tough thing about todays American family is divorce. In 1816, one marriage out of one hundred ended in divorce. Then between the years 1869-1888, divorce increased up to one hundred and fifty percent. Another effect is children experience more problems in school and with friends. And one of the last effects is divorced children in the long run make less r elationships, and if they do marry then the probability of getting a divorce is much higher. Another problem with the American family today is the abuse of children and wives. There is way to much abuse in families today whether it be physical or even worse, sexual. Abusive men always have an excuse on why they abuse and batter their wives. The three main excuses is the denial of responsibility, blaming the wife, and the denial of injury. Men who batter their wives should fight an even fight with a real man, not a tiny woman. Another excuse in James Ptaceks article, Why do men batter their wives?, is the denial of wrongness. Eighteen of the men interviewed by Ptacek, fourteen of them gave the excuse of denial of wrongness. A couple examples of denial of wrongness was the terrible cooking, the availability of sex, not bring deferential enough, on not knowing when to be silent, and not being faithful. In Evil Dead2;, Ash Starts out as a quiet guy, but when evil things start happening, he swings quickly into action. From slicing up his girlfriends possessed head to chopping off his own possessed hand, he never seems timid around danger. To accurately compare these two films, it needs to be known that Evil Dead; and Evil Dead2; are the same movie. Evil Dead2; is not a sequel to Evil Dead; but rather a remake of the original. The original let the impression of Ash being killed at the very end of the film. The remake, Evil Dead2;, allowed the making of the sequel, army of darkness;. In Evil Dead;, Ash, his girlfriend, and 3 other friends rent a run-down cabin in the middle of a deserted forest for a couple nights as a vacation. Ash seems to be the easy-going push over type. He does what everyone says without question. Shortly after a tree sexually attacks one of the girls in the group she becomes possessed and attempts to kill ashs girlfriend. While this is happening ash is standing 4 feet away with an ax, yet he is too scared to do anything. The other man in their group has to take action and lock her in the basement. According to the remake, this is unusual behavior for Ash. In Evil Dead2;, Ashs Girlfriend is the fir st individual possessed and he barely thinks twice before taking her head off with an ax and then cutting the head in half with a chain-saw. In Evil Dead;, one of the characters tells Ash that theres something out there; but ash refuses to believe. On the contrary, in Evil Dead2;, ash tries to convince some visitors to the cabin that people are possessed and they end up locking him in the basement. In the second version of the story, Ash is made out to be a hero. A man who defeated evil with a chainsaw and a shotgun. In the original, he is made out to be a survivor. Someone who coped with evil long enough to survive until morning. Even when morning comes, evil attacks one last time before the movie closes and you are left not knowing weather he lives or not. In the original Evil Dead;, he kills for fear and survival. Yet in Evil Dead2; he has some tendencies to act out on revenge and/or anger. This is more similar to how I picture Ash. It gives him more depth of character. Even in low-budget horror flicks characterization is an important part of the movie. Although Ash seems to care for his girlfriend more in the first movie, it doesnt seem to take much away from the second when he shows less emotion at her death. The similar stories with similar characters have differences that make Ash seem like two completely different individuals. Part of that difference is situational. Some of the sub-plots were changed from story to story. But I believe the majority of the difference to be from the character himself. The way he reacts, the way he displays emotion, even the way he looks around has changed from the original. And changed for the better.

Women And Writing Midterm Assignment : Women and writing Since the beginning of times, human beings have found various ways to express themselves and more specifically how to declare their feelings and emotions. We all know that art (in a general term) is supposed to be the tool used for expression. People from different communities, cultural backgrounds, and religions, have been appealed to manifest and share their uniqueness through art. Art, whether it was music, painting, sculpting or writing has been highly censured through time because of its contents of truth. The majorities of a society did not allow minorities to fully express themselves with fear of manifestations and revolts . Women, as a minority have fought to tell the truth. In order to understand better the meaning of Women's writing, we will first analyze the factors that pushed women to write, then we will go over the obstacles that women encountered and finally, we will discuss what the writers wanted to achieve through their writing. Factors that pushed women to write There are writers who need to make sense of the world they live(Dorothy Allison, Trash, p.19.) This sentence shows that the writer needed to write to see and understand herself through writing. This young white woman was living a life filled with alcohol and drug addiction, she tried to escape that trap by fooling herself and by rebuilding a total new idealistic image of her person (working as a social worker.) However, throughout her progression, she has been writing everything about herself on a yellow pad, whatever she would do, wherever she would be, those yellow pads were there, as a representation of her truth. She could fool herself, but not her yellow pads, her truth was written there. Allison as many women in the world has been trying to hide her suffering. Constantly fooling herself, she still had to yell out her truth, this, by spreading her pain on paper. However, the papers were taboo, just like someone would litter an embarrassing amount of trash. Allison had to take ou t her story and anger, even if they were full of shame. She could not live without writing, it was a matter of survival. This urge to write was shared by some other women writers. The search of an understanding was the factor that pushed Bell Hooks to write I began to feel uncertain, displaced, estranged even, this was the condition of my spirit when I decided to be a writer, to seek for that light in words (Bell Hooks, remembered ruptures, p.15) after that she declares Searching for a space were writing could be understood, I asked for a diary (Bell Hooks, remembered ruptures, p.15.)
